Dachser logistics and the Asturian company Pharmediq join in the fight against the pandemic. Together they have distributed more than 100 million masks and protective equipment in Spain and other European countries.

As soon as the coronavirus pandemic began, in the spring of 2020, the Pharmediq team - a company located in Asturias and dedicated to the storage, distribution and marketing of medical products - began to prepare for the new needs of the market. Sofía Nogueira Sánchez, CEO of Pharmediq, and her team reacted immediately to the situation and ordered several million euros worth of masks abroad. Only in the course of 2020 and thanks to the important support of Dachser, Pharmediq distributed more than 100 million masks and other protective equipment, both to Spain and to other European countries.

“Giving up was not an option," underlines Sofía Nogueira Sánchez. "The decision-making processes of large companies are usually very slow, but in the business of selling medical products you have to react immediately to market circumstances and decide quickly. We like this dynamic ", continues the person in charge, who in 2009 joined the pharmaceutical company Patricia Antón Saavedra to found the company.

Import of products to combat COVID-19

Fast and smooth transportation of medical products has taken on a crucial role in times of pandemic. "In 2020 we took a radical turn and went from international exports to the domestic market. In a short time we established a continuous import route of products to combat COVID-19," explains Sofía.

Although they initially received many orders for masks, from the beginning of 2021 protective equipment, such as suits, gloves and protective screens, became the most requested. To meet this demand, Pharmediq expanded its team and built three new warehouses, which now house more than 1,000 pallets of products to combat COVID-19.

Another factor that contributed to Pharmediq's success was undoubtedly having a competent and reliable logistics partner. Since 2014, the company has met its expectations with Dachser. "Pharmediq has evolved very quickly and is now one of our key customers," says Blanca de Francisco, Site Manager European Logistics at Dachser Asturias, who also explains that the medical device company is primarily using Dachser's European ground transportation network for distribution, while large transports from Turkey are carried out by full load truck (FTL). Groupage services are also offered, as well as others carried out through air and sea transport.

The CEO of Pharmediq also highlights how the logistics multinational fits into the philosophy of the company and remarks that "the excellent collaboration with Dachser last year was vital, since his team in Asturias responded to our needs perfectly. Dachser was in charge of organizing the transport in conditions of extreme time pressure, sometimes in a matter of hours. However, the team was always able to find the right means in record time and get the products to Spanish clinics in one or two days, "he says. the CEO of the company.

Blanca de Francisco, Site Manager of Dachser Asturias, adds: "We are in daily contact with the client to be able to predict and plan the departures in a totally efficient way, especially for a recipient as important as the IFEMA field hospital in Madrid." In total, Dachser helped Pharmediq import more than 100 million masks in 2020 and the success of the company has been recognized by the Spanish economic market. In October 2020, Sofía Nogueira Sánchez received the CaixaBank Business Woman Award in the northern zone that recognizes the professional excellence of businesswomen, as well as their strategic vision, leadership qualities and their capacity for innovation.
