Found, the oldest rope made from plant fibers

A rope of approximately 45,000 years ago, made by Neanderthals, becomes the oldest piece made from natural fibers

This finding expands our knowledge about the cognitive abilities of this species during the Middle Palaeolithic, between 300,000 and 30,000 years ago.

This is disclosed in a scientific article released today and published in the journal Scientific Reports.

Céline Kerfant, PhD student at the URV and IPHES has participated in this international study.
