The GRAN CINVE award will be chosen in Cáceres on September 10 and 13

  • CINVE prizes at the Japan Embassy.

The long-awaited CINVE 2020 contest is back, after having to be postponed due to the pandemic.

  • This international competition with a unique tasting panel assesses the quality of oils, wines, spirits, sakes, shochus, vermouth and, as a novelty this year, also vinegars and ciders.
  • Some tasting sessions of the contest were already held behind closed doors, rewarding quality Cordovan products such as OLEUM HISPANIA oil, from Molino Virgen de Fátima.
  • It is recognized as one of the most complete and prestigious gastronomic events in the world, making Cáceres the international capital of wine and other products for a few days.

The long-awaited 16th edition of CINVE, the international competition for Wines, Spirits, Virgin Olive Oils, Sakes and Shochus, which had to be postponed due to the coronavirus, is finally back. This renowned contest will hold in Cáceres the sessions of the International Wine, Vinegar, Spirits and Cider Competition from September 10 to 13 at the Hotel V Centenario de Cáceres, where the ‘GRAN CINVE’ award will be awarded. In this edition, oils, vinous and non-wine spirits, sakes, shochus, ciders, vermouth vinegars, white wines, sparkling wines, fortified wines, rosé wines and red wines have participated. In its wine category, CINVE is officially recognized by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.

The great novelty this year is that, in addition to the traditional wines and other products, various varieties of ciders and vinegars were also incorporated into the contest. For these, according to one of the members of the jury, the gastronomic expert Nacho Sandoval, “the quality of the best ciders and vinegars will be sought, with its own dedicated jury, products with a very important weight of Spanish gastronomy and with an increasingly international projection ”.

Products from more than twenty countries on all continents: Germany, Australia, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Spain, France, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, United Kingdom, Switzerland , Tunisia, USA, Venezuela ... etc. will compete for the prestigious 'GRAN CINVE' award, a unique recognition for the awarded companies, which endorses the quality of the product and facilitates its commercialization at a national and international level. An award that gains in importance, especially as the projection of the contest grows, as it shows that this year, according to the organization, the participation of samples has increased, arriving from a greater number of countries.

The jury that will determine which wines, spirits, vinegars and ciders obtain the 'GRAN CINVE' award is made up of experts in the sector, from countries such as Argentina (Diego Echegaray), Australia (Luis Aguilar), Belgium (Gerard Devos), Bulgaria (Dobrinka Veselinova), France (Pierre-Yves Desserve), Japan (Hiroshi Kobayashi), Peru (Emilio Vivanco), Poland (Joanna Ciborowska), Sweden (Anna Cranqvist) and, of course, Spain, with critics like Jacinto Domenech, José Valdearcos or Carmen Aguirre, among others.

In previous weeks, the tasting sessions of other types of the contest were held, such as Sakes and Shochus, which took place on July 5, from the Aula Española de Cata in Madrid. In it, ten tasters of great national and international professional prestige, from restaurants such as Diverxo or Grupo Kabuki, led by the technical director of the International Sakes Contest and Shochus CINVE, Pablo Alomar Salvioni, determined the winners. These will be announced together with the winners in Cáceres. At the event, Aoki Masahiro, secretary of the Japanese Embassy in Spain, was also present. The International Sake and Shochu Contest, which has celebrated its second edition this year, is the first event of these characteristics to take place in Spain and the third most important in the world.

Last June, the tasting sessions of the 11th International Contest of Virgin Olive Oils had also been held at the Casa-Palacio Durán de la Rocha de Cáceres, in which more than 50 national and international oil companies took part. The oils presented were evaluated by five highly prestigious tasters from various countries, led by Anuncia Carpio, Technical Director of the International Virgin Olive Oil Competition (CINVE). The winner of the renowned GRAN CINVE 2020 award, which accredits the best virgin olive oil, went to OLEUM HISPANIA from Cordoba, from Molino Virgen de Fátima. A Catalan oil, OLICASTELLOARBEQUINA by Moli D´Oli Gabriel Alsina and three other oils from Cordoba: CORTIJO DE SUERTE ALTA, COUPAGE NATURAL by Cortijo de Suerte Alta, SL, KNOLIVE EPICURE by Knolive Oils and, RINCÓN DE LA SUBBÉTICA DOP PRIEGO DE CÓRDOBA Almazaras de la Subbética won the four GRAN GOLD awards.
