Identified the use of caves as lairs by the Iberian lynx

These carnivores used them mainly to breed and as a refuge for small cubs.

It happened 30,000 years ago, in the Cova del Gegant, in Sitges (Barcelona), and today it is disclosed in a scientific article published by Scientific Reports

The main investigator of the study is Antonio Rodríguez-Hidalgo, member of IPHES and UCM.

The lynx used the Cova del Gegant 30,000 years ago as a den. This is indicated by the analysis of the archaeological remains recovered in one of the levels of the site, which have allowed us to characterize for the first time what an Iberian lynx den would look like during the Paleolithic.
