Interview with Amador Elena about his first book

  • Echar Sal a Tu Paso, or throw salt in your step, the award-winning book of poems.

Winning a competition and seeing a book of poems published at the age of sixteen is a real achievement. Amador Elena, a young man from Madrid who is passionate about art, seeks to connect with readers through everything he was once unable to express, creating stories that combine the fictional and the autobiographical.

His book of poems entitled "Echar Sal a tu paso" has won an award from the Talón de Aquiles publishing house.

He made his acting debut in the summer of 2018, playing "Ampelo" in the play *DIONISIO, La vid... Y mil noches*, directed by Rafael Amargo. From an early age, he showed an inclination towards urban dance and a deep connection with music. Amador's poems are inspired by personal experiences, which he describes as intense and honest, nourished by his childhood and romantic experiences, which are reflected in each verse.

Amador, at sixteen years old you achieved something that for many is a dream: winning a contest and seeing your book of poems published. How was that moment for you?

It was a mix of emotions. The happiness of seeing my work recognized was combined with surprise, because I never thought that something so personal and so intimate could resonate with other people. I feel very fortunate that my words have found an echo in readers, and being able to share my thoughts through a book is something that still excites me.

How would you describe the style of your poems and what do you seek to convey with them?

My style is intense and honest. I have always believed that poetry should reflect who we are, our wounds and our victories. My poems are a way of expressing what I have experienced, what has marked me and what is sometimes difficult to let go of. I seek for those who read them to see themselves reflected in my verses, to find comfort or, at least, a space where they do not feel alone. Many of my poems are inspired by real people, although I do not mention their names, and those who have read them have been able to recognize moments of my life that we have shared.

In 2018 you debuted as an actor playing "Ampelo" in "DIONISIO, La vid... Y mil noches", directed by Rafael Amargo. What did that experience mean to you?

It was a deeply enriching experience, one that I would love to continue living. The theatre is a space where I feel truly free, a place to explore other realities and release that creativity that has always accompanied me. Playing Ampelo was a challenge, but also an opportunity to discover new facets of myself, feel the energy of the audience and connect deeply with a different story. In addition, Rafa Amargo, along with my mother, has become an important pillar in my life, being one of my greatest supports on this path.

Your poems are often inspired by personal experiences, both from your childhood and your romantic experiences. How important is this connection with what you have lived for you?

It is fundamental. For me, writing is a way of understanding what I have lived and giving it meaning. Sometimes there are things that we cannot say out loud, but that we need to release in some way. Writing has allowed me to transform those feelings into something tangible, something that I can share. Writing about my experiences helps me heal, but also to build a bridge to others, so that they can also recognize themselves in what I tell.

You are still very young and you have a promising future ahead of you. How do you imagine yourself in a few years?

Without a doubt, I want to continue studying and become a good psychologist. I am passionate about the idea of better understanding human beings, knowing their concerns and delving deeper into how we think and feel. But that does not mean that I will stop writing. I would love to continue exploring my facet as a writer and keep my passion for theater alive, since I feel that I still have a lot to offer in that field. What I am very clear about is that I want to finish my studies, and I am willing to make the necessary effort to combine all these passions. Each of these paths enriches me and helps me grow as a person.

What advice would you give to other young people who, like you, dream of achieving their goals?

I would tell them not to be afraid of being authentic and to be perseverant in the pursuit of their dreams. I have submitted my stories and poems to many platforms and contests, and although at first it seemed impossible, in the end I succeeded! Sometimes we think that our stories are not interesting enough or that our voice is not important, but each experience is unique and deserves to be shared. The path is not always easy, but satisfaction comes when you dare to be vulnerable and honest with yourself. And I would also tell them not to stop pursuing what they are passionate about, because there will always be someone willing to listen to them and help them achieve it.

I want to congratulate Amador again for the publication of this book of poems. I am left with your smile and those charming nerves of the first interviews. I am convinced that many more will come, and that this is only the beginning of a path full of success, with more books and more awards. Go ahead, Amador Elena!
