The success algorithm

  • Illustration of a man walking up a blue path of learning and economic growth to achieve financial freedom.

*The Success Algorithm* is not a book that sells false promises of getting rich. It is a manual of real strategies for making the most of your talent, your work, and your life. The goal is to regain control over your time, your energy, and your future.

Ferran Martínez—a former elite athlete turned investor, advisor, and tech entrepreneur—reveals the practical keys that allowed him to reinvent himself after a forced retirement and build a high-impact second life in the financial and business worlds.

This is an inspiring read in which Ferran teaches you how to face challenges with a winning mindset when pressure, uncertainty, and fear arise. After all, true wealth is not so much about the money you earn, but the life you can afford to live.

This book is an invitation to wake up, because financial freedom is not a stroke of luck. It is an algorithm. And here, you will learn how to execute it.

When asked in an interview about his assertion that financial freedom is not luck but an algorithm, he commented: “To me, it means that financial freedom is having the capacity to learn and the tools at your disposal to make the best decisions. That doesn't depend on chance or a one-off stroke of luck. In technology, an algorithm is the logic a program follows to function: what to do, in what order, and under what conditions. That is why, when I speak of the ‘Algorithm of Success,’ I am referring to a repeatable combination of habits, decisions, mindset, discipline, and strategy. This is one of the lessons I learned in elite sports, where the final result depends not only on talent but on daily discipline, emotional management, the capacity for sacrifice, and long-term vision. When I talk about an algorithm, that is precisely what I mean: understanding the variables that influence your life and learning to arrange them strategically.”

Ferran Martínez exemplifies a life lived at a high-performance level. A former professional basketball player, he played for major clubs such as FC Barcelona, Joventut de Badalona, and Panathinaikos Athens; he was a Spanish international on 156 occasions and an Olympian. His athletic career was marked by numerous successes and individual accolades that placed him among the elite of continental basketball.

His achievements include a host of national and international titles, most notably: 7 ACB League championships, 1 EuroLeague title (1994, with Joventut de Badalona), 1 European Cup Winners' Cup, 1 Korać Cup, 1 Greek League title, 2 Spanish King's Cups, and 2 Club World Championships. Furthermore, he participated in 4 EuroLeague Final Fours, establishing himself as one of the standout centers in European basketball of his generation.

His career spanned 18 years at the elite level, during which he competed continuously at the highest level in both Spain and Europe.

However, Ferran did not settle for just one life path. After retiring, he successfully reinvented himself with the same discipline he had applied to competition, transferring the elite sports mindset to the worlds of business, investment, and technology.

He pursued training in programming and computing, financial analysis, and equity markets, and completed an Executive MBA (La Salle-URL and Saint Mary’s University, San Francisco). He has led private banking units specializing in athletes and high-net-worth wealth management, with a focus on investment and technology (fintech, blockchain, AI, and quantum computing). He is a co-founder of projects such as Global Sports Advisors and Lánzame Capital, and a partner in firms including Kenomic, Circles, Entanglement Partners, and Yoseyomo.

Currently, he is a partner at Bevolutive, Director of Institutional Relations at Reental, a member of the WCGC, Vice President of Panathlon International Barcelona, and an ambassador for the Harbour Space Institute of Technology; he is also actively involved with technology hubs and startup ecosystems. Additionally, he is a public speaker, coach, and author of several books on management and finance.

Basketball and Business

“Sport is the best school of life, as it teaches you to work as a team—always with a clear focus on goals and in a structured, strategic manner. Technical and physical preparation, continuous improvement, discipline and daily habits, commitment, and surrounding yourself with the best possible talent to achieve strong results—all of this closely mirrors high-performance teams, whether in business or in sports. And, above all, there is the vision and competitiveness that drive you to pursue excellence in your day-to-day life,” notes the former player.
